1 The service
1.1 The Home Cyber Safety Check is a limited, one-to-one advice and education service for home users. It may include general guidance about account security, multi-factor authentication, passwords, devices, home WiFi, backups, scam awareness and personal recovery planning.
1.2 The booking page or written confirmation sets the session duration, fee and appointment time.
1.3 The service is not managed security, continuous monitoring, technical support, device administration, penetration testing, vulnerability scanning, forensic investigation, incident response, data recovery, identity restoration, financial advice or legal advice.
2 You remain in control
2.1 You operate your own device and decide what to discuss or change. The Consultant may explain settings and options, but you are responsible for entering information and approving any action.
2.2 The Consultant will not request, receive, record or retain your passwords, authentication codes, recovery codes, banking credentials, full payment card details, private photographs or private files, and will not remotely access or control your device.
2.3 You must not disclose those details during a session or include them in a booking form. The Consultant may pause or stop an activity that appears unsafe, outside scope or likely to cause loss of access or data.
3 Your responsibilities
You agree to:
- provide accurate information about your concerns and current arrangements;
- keep your passwords, recovery information and private data confidential;
- keep appropriate backups before changing important settings;
- decide whether each recommendation is suitable for you;
- test backups and recovery methods yourself; and
- seek specialist or emergency help when the situation is outside this service.
4 Bookings, payment and cancellation
4.1 When the live booking form confirms a reservation, the selected appointment is held for you subject to payment and written joining instructions from the Consultant.
4.2 Payment is due at the time stated in the confirmation. An unpaid appointment may be released. Promotional pricing applies only where it is shown on the booking page at the time of reservation.
4.3 You may cancel or reschedule without charge by giving at least 24 hours' notice. With less than 24 hours' notice, the session fee may be retained or remain payable because the time was reserved, except where the Australian Consumer Law requires otherwise or the Consultant agrees to waive it.
4.4 If the Consultant cancels and cannot offer a suitable alternative, any amount paid for that session will be refunded.
5 No guarantee of complete security
5.1 Cyber safety guidance is intended to reduce risk, not eliminate it. Threats, scams, software, platform settings and personal circumstances change over time.
5.2 The Consultant does not guarantee that every weakness will be identified or that a recommendation will prevent unauthorised access, fraud, malware, identity theft, data loss or another security incident.
5.3 The service does not certify that a device, account, network or household is secure.
6 Urgent incidents
If money or banking information may be at risk, contact your bank or card provider immediately using an official number. For a compromised account, use the provider's official recovery service. Australian home users can report cybercrime through ReportCyber, report scam information to Scamwatch and contact IDCARE for identity and cyber support. Call 000 if anyone is in immediate danger. This consultation is not an emergency response service and must not delay urgent protective action.
7 Privacy and confidentiality
7.1 The Consultant will use information you provide only to arrange and deliver the service, communicate with you and meet legal or insurance obligations.
7.2 The Consultant will take reasonable steps to protect non-public personal information and will not intentionally access information outside the agreed discussion.
7.3 Booking and communication services may be supplied by third parties with their own terms and privacy practices.
8 Written summary and intellectual property
8.1 Any written action summary is provided for your personal use. You may keep, print and share it with a trusted support person or service provider.
8.2 The Consultant retains ownership of pre-existing methods, templates, guidance materials and general know-how.
9 Liability and consumer rights
9.1 Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies a guarantee, right, remedy or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including under the Australian Consumer Law.
9.2 To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Consultant is not liable merely because a cyber incident, scam, account compromise, device failure or data loss occurs before or after a session.
9.3 To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Consultant is not responsible for loss caused by a pre-existing weakness, inaccurate or incomplete information, another person's act or omission, a third-party service, a recommendation not followed, a setting later changed or conduct outside the agreed scope.
9.4 Where liability may lawfully be limited, the Consultant's total aggregate liability arising from a session is capped at the fee paid or payable for that session. This limit does not apply to fraud, wilful misconduct or any liability that cannot legally be limited.
10 Ending a session
Either party may end a session if it cannot continue safely, respectfully or within the agreed scope. You remain responsible for fees for services already provided, subject to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
11 General
11.1 The Consultant is an independent contractor.
11.2 If a dispute arises, the parties should first try to resolve it through good-faith discussion.
11.3 If a provision is invalid or unenforceable, it is read down or severed to the minimum extent necessary and the remainder continues.
11.4 These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia.
