Impact story template

Make the risk real without overstating it.

Three short hypothetical stories designed to help a household picture the disruption, recognise the gap and understand the practical action that would reduce the risk.

Demonstration only. Replace with verified footage before public promotion.
1. IntroduceGive the viewer one question.

Ask them to notice which part of the story would affect their household most.

2. PlayKeep the clip under 47 seconds.

One person, one incident and one clear consequence.

3. ConnectMove directly to a practical action.

Show how preparation changes the outcome without promising perfect protection.

Hypothetical scenario 01

MFA and email lockout

A person loses their phone while travelling. Their main email requires a code from that phone, and the same email controls recovery for banking, shopping and social accounts.

The immediate impact

They cannot reach travel bookings, reset other accounts or confirm important messages. Recovery takes several days because no second method was prepared.

What preparation changes

Current recovery details, saved backup codes and more than one approved sign in method provide another route back into the account.

Ask before

If your phone disappeared tonight, which important account would you need first?

Ask after

Where would you find a recovery code if your phone was unavailable?

Session link

Review recovery methods for the main email and other accounts that depend on it.

Hypothetical scenario 02

Backup failure

A household laptop stops working. Years of family photos and important documents appear to be in cloud storage, but only part of the folder had ever synchronised.

The immediate impact

Files needed for insurance, tax and family records are unavailable. Data recovery is uncertain and expensive.

What preparation changes

An automatic backup, a separate second copy and an occasional test restore show whether the important files can actually be recovered.

Ask before

What is stored on one device that your household could not easily replace?

Ask after

When did you last open a file from your backup rather than the original?

Session link

Identify important files, confirm where copies exist and test a simple restore.

Hypothetical scenario 03

Banking fraud

A caller claims to be from the bank and describes an urgent suspicious payment. The caller already knows basic personal details and asks for the one time code that has just arrived.

The immediate impact

The code approves access or a payment. Accounts are frozen while the bank investigates, creating financial disruption and a long trail of follow up work.

What preparation changes

The person ends the call, opens the official banking app or uses the number on their card, and never reads an authentication code to an incoming caller.

Ask before

What would make an unexpected call from your bank feel convincing?

Ask after

Which trusted route would you use to contact the bank independently?

Session link

Agree a verification habit and record the official contact routes for urgent banking issues.

What the finished footage should do.

Use one believable detail.A lost phone at an airport is stronger than a long list of technical threats.
Let the person describe the disruption.Time lost, access unavailable and difficult decisions are more credible than dramatic claims.
Protect privacy and obtain permission.Use actors, anonymised composites or contributors who have given clear written consent.
Finish with useful action. The audience should leave knowing what they can check, not simply feeling worried.

From recognition to a working plan.

The consultation applies these lessons to the accounts, devices and recovery arrangements used by the household.
